Essential oils are at the forefront of the natural remedies resurgence. The uses and benefits of essential oils have been around since ancient times, and now they’re making a huge comeback. When Ancient Apothecary came out with their line, they must have had this in mind: getting back to the roots of healing. No more unnecessary prescriptions, antibiotics, or OTC medication for common ailments. Instead, look to the indefinite intelligence of nature – harness that, and heal.

Maybe you’ve found yourself on this  page because you want to make a lifestyle out of essential oils and want to find the perfect brand for you. Or maybe you’ve used Ancient Nutrition products and want to see if their essential oils are just as good. Whatever your reason, you’re in the right place.

In this article, I’m going to review and rate Ancient Apothecary essential oils on a scale of A+-F based on price, selection, and quality. To learn more about our rating scale, go here. But before we get into it, there are a couple things you need to get clear on. What are your goals with essential oils? Are you interested in the therapeutic benefits and creating a lifestyle with essential oils? Or, are you looking to give your laundry a natural lavender smell and your countertops some cleansing citrus love?

If you just want to use essential oils to save money and ditch harsh chemicals when cleaning, then a cheaper brand isn’t such a bad idea. But, if you want to harness the powers of essential oils to detox, heal skin issues, sleep better, and ease anxiety, then you need a high-quality brand you can trust. By the end of this post, you’ll know if Ancient Apothecary is the brand for you.

The Basics: Who is Ancient Apothecary?

Ancient Apothecary is the essential oil brand of the natural health and wellness guru and our friend, Dr. Axe. His work is pretty reputable and aligns with many of our beliefs about our journey toward overall wellness. It’s a small collection with a big focus on practical application — each oil comes with plenty of information on how to use it for different health concerns.

Price

These Ancient Apothecary essential oils are definitely on the higher end of the essential oil price spectrum. They are even more than some other popular premium brands like doTERRA.

Here’s what you can expect to invest:

LAVENDER $22.00 for 15 mL

FRANKINCENSE $79.50 for 15 mL*

PEPPERMINT $21.00 for 15 mL

* Ancient Apothecary does not actually sell frankincense in 15 mL bottles, only 5 mL, so I did the math to convert it to 15 mL.

Selection

There aren’t many of the Ancient Apothecary oils to choose from — only 13 different singles — though the ones they do offer are generally considered to be some of the most versatile. There also aren’t any blends available, so you’d have to concoct your own. This brand may be a good op on then for somebody who wants to dip their toes into the pool of essential oils.

Quality

Each of the Ancient Apothecary essential oils are certified organic, so we know they’ve been through lots of important testing and meet a certain quality. However, they don’t discuss or mention these results or their general standards on their website. I would normally love to see that. There’s also no information on sourcing or extraction prac ces. But because of the quality of their content (and because we know and trust Dr. Axe) I’m confident that the oils are of high quality. I even own some! Even still, it would be great if they had more info on their website for folks that don’t know them personally.

Ancient Apothecary Rating

I will say I’m a little biased. I love Dr. Axe’s work, I love his integrity and it’s great that these oils are certified organic. This could be a great place to start your essential oil journey, but if you want to branch out and make essential oils a lifestyle you’ll probably need a company with a bigger selection in the long run.

I’m rating Ancient Apothecary essential oils an A which means really great value and quality. These oils are perfect for therapeutic benefits and for those that want to use essential oils as a lifestyle. They may not offer some perks and other nuances of higher rated companies.
