How to Drink More Water + Our Best Hydration Tips

It sounds simple: drink more water. But it’s much easier said than done. Chronic dehydration haunts 75 percent of Americans and can lead to irritability, brain fog, fatigue, skin issues, poor digestion, and more. 

After more than a decade of consulting clients on optimal health and healing, we know this to be true: Proper hydration is the foundation to every health aspiration. Whether you want to lose weight, have a radiant complexion, or have all-day energy, hydration is essential. 

It’s easy to get liquid throughout the day—first, it’s a coffee, then maybe a soda, another coffee, iced tea, and before you know it, you forgot to drink water. I get it; water can be boring, and hydrating can be daunting. So maybe you chug a big glass before bed. But it’s not just about guzzling water. It’s about getting the water into the cells to nourish and support vitality. Real hydration requires a proper balance of electrolytes to support your body and regulate pH levels. Today, we’re sharing how to drink more water and our best hydration tips. 

Why Hydration is Crucial for Overall Health 

Our bodies use water for just about everything we do: from keeping our large organs working well to keeping our tiny cells at high function. Our body is mostly water, with our brains being 85 percent water! Without water, we start to…eh…malfunction—kind of like how your car won’t go if it doesn’t have gas. 

Water helps us with digestion, nutrient absorption, oxygen circulation, detox, temperature regulation, metabolism, and so much more. 

Hydration Tips 

Summer is coming in hot, and it’s a great day to up hydration by eating hydrating foods. But it’s important to remember that hydrating foods are not a substitute for water, just a bonus. 

Add these foods to your grocery list: watermelon, honeydew, cucumber, iceberg lettuce, celery, grapefruit, oranges, apples, bell peppers, berries, tomatoes, pineapple, limes, lemons. 

Avoid too much caffeine and alcohol. We know that caffeine and alcohol are incredibly dehydrating. And in the end, both make you feel more sluggish anyway. 

If you can’t seem to get down plain water, add citrus to your water! You can also opt for carbonated water! When looking for good carbonated water with a twist of flavor, make sure there is no added sugar and only real fruit! 

Get a big water bottle with time markers on it! These are super popular these days, and they are a great way to challenge yourself to get enough water in.
