The unfortunate fact is that this is common but not normal. I can relate to you. I’ve dealt with adrenal fatigue 5 times in my life, and I know how difficult and frustrating it can be to deal with it.
To heal, you need to make 3 mindset changes about how to treat adrenal fatigue.
1- Understand that low energy is not normal: it’s common but not normal to wake up after a full night’s sleep and still feel exhausted. It’s not normal to struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep. And it’s not normal to depend on caffeine all throughout the day. This loss of vibrancy and energy is not because you’re getting older! It’s because your HPA axis and adrenals are struggling. You also need to understand that this is not your fault. Our modern-day society doesn’t set us up to win in this. First things first: acknowledge that something is wrong and that you are going to work to heal.
2 – You have to do something different to get a different result: how long has it been that you’ve felt like this? You have to recognize that if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’re going to feel how you’ve always felt. You need to get out of your comfort zone and make big changes to your daily routine.
3 – There is no magic bullet or quick fix to adrenal fatigue: I talked about this in a previous episode, but the sad truth is that there is no quick fix (is there ever a quick fix?). You can’t get to the root of an issue with shortcuts. We’re in it for long-term results. You need support and lifestyle changes if you want to stop feeling like a watered-down version of yourself.
