~Keep calm and carry on~ Easier said than done, right? Not for empowerment coach and founder of Abi’s Journal, Abi Taugwalder. She believes that there are simple and accessible ways to calm down and care for your loved ones—without putting yourself on the back burner.

In this episode, Erica and Abi dive into their experience as multi-faceted mothers following their dreams. Abi talks about the power of breathwork, a yin yoga routine, and waking up early. This is a must-listen if you’re looking for inspiration and a new perspective on stress and self-care.

We live in an overwhelming world. That fact is truer than ever. Feeling out of control is the norm these days, but it doesn’t have to be. We love Abi’s perspective on stress. She says that stress is the awareness that something is out of alignment and needs to be addressed. In other words, stress and anxious feelings can be our north star or a map to our more authentic, best selves.

When addressing stress, Abi says that the first step is to recognize that every feeling is valid. Next, you should name the feeling and bring no judgment to it. Try changing your perspective on the situation. And then make an action plan on what you will do next.

Abi talks about her favorite tools for keeping calm and staying on track. She loves to start her mornings with complete awareness. How am I feeling? What would feel nourishing to my body and mind today? She practices yin yoga religiously every morning, whether that be for ten minutes or a half-hour. She also uses breathwork to help her flip from sympathetic (fight or flight) to parasympathetic mode (rest and digest).

Morning routines seem to be the key to feeling rounded for Abi. She shares her rituals and how they keep her aligned with her purpose each day. Her number 1 tip for someone who wants to get started is simply setting your alarm clock ten minutes earlier than normal. Take that time to water the plants, sit with yourself, pray, breathe, stretch. It doesn’t have to be complicated.

Abi hones in on the simplicity of self-care and the importance of consistency, and we are here for it. Check out her website or instagram for more information and support.
