You’ve already heard about 5G, but if you’re on the pulse of the wellness community, what you’ve heard is not so good. We love the conveniences of technology, but the reality is that it sometimes comes at a price. With 5G, there’s a growing concern and for a very good reason. 

Cell phones have been called the 21st-century cigarette. We use them all the time, but we don’t know the long term health effects. In this episode, we’re going to explore EMF and 5G: what it is, what are the effects on our health, and what we can do to protect ourselves and our loved ones. 

What is EMF? 

EMF is a mix of electronic and magnetic energy emitted from appliances that we rely on daily. Cellphones, WiFi routers, microwaves, TVs, and even our dryer. 

This type of radiation is woven into the fabric of our everyday lives, and it’s just getting worse with 5G. EMF has the potential to expose us to free radicals in excess, damaging DNA and creating serious health issues. Some common complaints I hear in my practice related to EMF exposure include headaches, brain fog, difficulty sleeping, and skin sensitivity. 

With 5G being discussed as the hot, new technology, there are concerns because it hasn’t been studied for its long term effect on human health. 5G or millimeter wave (MMW) has greater bandwidth than 3G and 4G. Basically, more people will have faster service in small areas. Billions of antennas will be added to our environment, placed on top of lamp posts and schools–and we will be bathing in it. Because this is going to affect everyone and you can’t opt-out of it, we’re concerned. 

Short-term animal studies show that 5G is linked to a lot of problems: altered structure and function of the cell, heart murmurs, eye problems, decrease immune system function, increase in antibiotic resistance, impact on the microbiome, and more. 

But fortunately, there are actions that you can be taken to reduce your exposure and keep you and your loved ones healthy. 

Practical Tips to Reduce Exposure & Potential Damage: 

  • Don’t expose yourself when you don’t have to 
  • Opt-out of the scanner at the airport 
  • Hardwire your internet 
  • Turn WiFi off at night 
  • Turn location services off on phone 
  • Don’t keep your phone on your body 
  • Shield yourself when you can with these protectors 
  • Replace your microwave with a toaster oven 
  • Eat healthy, whole foods 
  • Invest in an EMF meter
