Have you seen this post yet? I wrote one about how to wake up early and energized in the morning. We all want to wake up feeling a burst of energy- like we can conquer anything that comes our way during the day.
The best thing though? That kind of energy that lasts the entire day. This is why I love to use essential oils for energy. Essential oils (when they come from the right source) are 100% natural and very effective. They can give you a boost of energy not just in the morning but all day long.
They increase wakefulness and promote alertness and focus so that you can be highly productive and accomplish everything you need to (and then some!) during the day.
If you’re sick of relying on stimulants like coffee, soda, energy drinks, sugar or carbs to keep you going throughout the day, look no further. Essential oils actually provide a nourishing kind of energy to the mind and body as opposed to the jarring energy that you get from caffeine and other stimulants.
Because of their chemical composition, essential oils can actually ward off fatigue and increase energy levels quite effectively. If you want the kind of energy that’s going to give you that edge – where people are like, “How does (s)he do it?” Keep reading. You’re going to discover some of the most powerful essential oils for promoting energy that lasts without side effects.
Best Essential Oils for Energy
1) Peppermint Essential Oil
It’s been years now and my love affair with my little bottles of essential oils continues to grow stronger every day. The more I use them the more I love them. Peppermint is hands down one of the best essential oils for energy because of it’s chemical composition and the versatile ways you can use it.
Keep It on the Nightstand
Peppermint is that essential oil that you need on the nightstand. It can revive your senses when the alarm clock goes off in the morning and you want to hit the snooze. Whether you were out too late with friends or you were up rocking a teething baby, Peppermint will do the trick when you need to wake up and get going.
Add Drops to the Shower Floor
Inhale drops of Peppermint in your palms to wake up in the morning. As you make your way to the shower another great trick is to add several drops of Peppermint to the shower floor after the water is hot. Once the hot water hits the essential oil the aroma fills the air creating a steam room of Peppermint which will help you to wake up even more.
Add it to Your Smoothie
One thing I love is to add Peppermint to my morning smoothie. I make one with berries and almond milk and it’s just delicious. The Peppermint essential oil adds another layer of refreshment and it also revitalizes the senses. This is a great midday snack when you might start feeling rundown as well. Just add a drop of Peppermint per half cup of liquid.
And it’s essential to make sure that the oil that you’re using is from a trusted source and that it’s therapeutic grade. For more details on where we get our essential oils, send a message to [email protected].
Diffuse It
Diffusers are the essential oil lovers best friend. It’s the best way to fill a room with an inviting aroma without a bunch of synthetic fragrances found in candles and air fresheners. And it’s also the best way to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of essential oils without having to actively apply them.
A blend that I absolutely love (and it’s quite popular) is Wild Orange and Peppermint. I know- it seems like they wouldn’t go together at all, but they make the perfect combination. It’s like refreshment with a twist. Not only is Wild Orange a highly energizing oil, but I personally feel that when it’s combined with Peppermint the effects of both are enhanced.
Diffuse when you’re at work, plowing through a project at home or you just want to put a little pep in your step. These are two of the best essential oils for energy. Get them!
Inhale Before a Workout
If you want to get the most out of your workout (and who doesn’t?) inhale Peppermint essential oil before you hit the gym. Keep it in your gym bag or purse. Add 2 drops to the palm of one hand, rub your palms together to combine. Cup your hands over your nose and inhale deeply several times.
Take your palm and rub the essential oil into the back of your neck so that it can access your spine and nervous system. The aroma is invigorating and you’ll feel some extra spunk so you can hit those weights harder and get more out of your workout.
Since you’ve made the effort to be at the gym, do everything you can to enhance your workout and make the most out of it.
2)Wild Orange Essential Oil
Most citrus oils like Wild Orange are known for their therapeutic benefits and powerful scent. They can increase energy and uplift your mood. And who wouldn’t want that?
Orange essential oil comes from the peel of the fruit and has a fresh and sweet aroma. The oil’s energy-boosting ability is also accompanied by a number of other benefits. I couldn’t create an article on essential oils for energy without including Wild Orange.
Some of my favorite ways to use it are listed below.
Add it to Your Water
We always recommend that you drink half your bodyweight in ounces of water per day. This is the minimum needed for your body to replenish and function at the highest level. I love to add drops of Wild Orange to my water. All I do is mix it with 1/2 teaspoon of honey first. Not only is the taste so refreshing (helpful if you struggle with drinking water anyway) but it also helps to uplift my mood.
There are a couple things you want to do to ensure safety. First, make sure you’re using only therapeutic grade essential oils (others are not safe for ingesting) and don’t add the essential oils to plastic water bottles. They can eat through the plastic.
Invest in a big stainless steel water bottle instead. It’s better for the environment and you don’t have to worry about filling cup after cup. Carry your water bottle around with you in the day and sip throughout to get the recommended water intake.
Inhale it When You Need a Pick Me Up
Instead of reaching for that sugary mid-afternoon snack or energy drink, reach for your essential oil instead. Add some drops to your palms and inhale deeply several times. Drink a good amount of water and chances are you’ll feel more awake and upbeat in a matter of seconds.
Add a drop of Peppermint for a little twist.
Try this Diffuser Recipe:
This is one of my favorite diffuser recipes. I call it “Happy Place.” It uses lots of citrus oils as well as Peppermint and Spearmint. It’s potent and highly effective. I always feel even more upbeat and alive when I’m diffusing this one.
Added benefits are that these oils purify the air and support immune system function. I use this recipe for a pretty large room. If you’re diffusing in a smaller space, cut the recipe in half (1 drop of each instead of 2).
Happy Place Diffuser Blend
2 drops Wild Orange
2 drops Lemon
2 drops Bergamot
2 drops Lime
2 drops Grapefruit
2 drops Spearmint
2 drops Peppermint
Add drops of essential oil to your diffuser. Fill with water to the line indicated and turn it on! You’ll be feeling more energized in minutes!
3) Rosemary Essential Oil
When it comes to using essential oils for energy, some have different effects. This is the oil to turn to when you’re feeling really fatigued. I’m talking about that lingering kind of tired that is hard to shake off. I like using Peppermint and Wild Orange for when I’m dealing with a one-off kind of tired: up too late watching a movie kind of a thing.
For that broke down I’m-completely-wiped-out kind of feeling, I like to use Rosemary. For example I know my adrenals were fried after I had my second son last year. Up at night nursing every few hours with a toddler and infant to look after during the day was a lot on my body.
Rosemary Essential Oil is beneficial for that kind of ongoing fatigue. It blends well with Basil which is also an oil that promotes mental alertness. Together they are one of the best blends of essential oils for energy.
So, if you’ve been feeling rundown for a while from working too much or there’s been stress in your life that has drained you physically this is a great oil to turn to.
Diffuse It
For adrenal support I like diffusing this with basil because if I’m feeling that worn down I want to get the therapeutic effects for a longer period of time.
Make a Tea
Make a nourishing tea for yourself with oils of Rosemary and Basil. Just mix one drop of each with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of honey and add to hot water or tea.
It will make you feel more alive, plus you will get the internal benefits of the oil as well. Just ensure that you are using 100% pure, therapeutic grade essential oils.

Use It Topically
Topical use of essential oils is very effective. It’s also a great way to get the benefits of the essential oils into your whole body. The bottoms of the feet are a great entry point. They are porous and allow you to access organs and systems of the body to provide support where needed.
If you’re dealing with adrenal fatigue you can definitely benefit from the added support of using essential oils like Rosemary and Basil topically.
Simply choose a carrier oil of your choice. Nothing fancy needed here. Coconut oil or olive oil will work fine. You just need an oil to dilute your essential oils in before applying to your skin.
Add a drop of basil and a drop of rosemary to the palm of one hand. Pour a small amount of carrier oil into the same palm and gently rub your palms together. Or, if you’re using coconut oil it’s solid at room temperature so just mix it in with the essential oils in the palm of your hand.
Rub the oil mixture into the soles of your feet. Swipe your hand over the back of your neck to rub the oil into the spine, accessing the nervous system. Inhale the remainder in your palms for a few deep breaths.
These are hands down some of the best essential oils for energy. What are your favorites? If you’ve tried other essential oil blends and recipes before that helped you boost your energy, please share them with us in the comment section below. We love to hear from you!
