How to stay healthy and happy during this time.

I hope this finds you and your family well. Most people have had their lives disrupted due to the coronavirus and we are not exempt. My kids are antsy and don’t understand why they can’t go to Karate or see their friends. They don’t really understand what’s happening, but we have had some great moments together as a family! The weather is warming up here in Georgia and we went for a family bike ride the other day. It was refreshing and much needed! It helps to be grateful and focus on our blessings.

Now, more than ever I am so happy that our family is fully committed to natural living. We have worked tirelessly over the years to educate ourselves on natural living and share what we’ve learned with others. Because of that, we aren’t afraid of this virus. We are cautious and we’re practicing social distancing but we aren’t afraid. I want to share some of our favorite health tips with you in this article:

We know the top 2 steps to take to stay well during this global health crisis: practice social distancing and extra good hygiene.

So you’re staying at home and you’re washing your hands but you still feel uneasy about the whole situation. It’s okay. Many people feel the same way. It’s a time to focus on what we can do to protect ourselves, our families, our communities and ultimately – the world. It’s not the time to hoard toilet paper and become selfish. It’s the time to slow down, hunker down, and act from a place of love.

Nourish

Being in quarantine can tempt you to pour an extra glass of wine and end your comfort-food-filled dinner with a decadent dessert. While this can make time at home a little more enjoyable and fun (and believe me, we indulge every now and then too), it’s also important to properly nourish and hydrate yourself. Your body is in need of some extra TLC right now and sticking to a whole foods diet with plenty of liquids is how to do it.

Eat your fruits and vegetables. Whether fresh or frozen, get in what is available to you. To abide by social distancing rules, food delivery will make it easier to stay home. Due to a high demand, shipping will be slower than usual delays but these are the options that we love and support.

Drink plenty of water with lemon or lime. Lemons and limes work to hydrate the body and replenish electrolytes. 16 ounces of water with lemon or lime upon waking will help flush toxins and revitalize your cells.

Drink herbal teas. Teas that include ginger or turmeric will be extremely supportive during this time. If you are feeling under the weather try this recipe:

  • 1 clove crushed garlic (you can swap this out or rotate with fresh ginger if needed)
  • 1/2 fresh squeezed lemon
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • 8 oz of hot water

*Drink a minimum of 3x a day in between meals

Supplement – but don’t go overboard.  Getting your vitamins and minerals through whole foods first is always going to be king. Supplements are meant to supplement your already supportive diet. I am a firm believer that everyone should be on a good multivitamin. Even though a whole food diet is the foundation we cannot get all of the nutrients we need from fruits and vegetables. Watch my video here for more info. If you want to incorporate supplements into your daily routine here are some of the best ones that help kill viruses and support a strong immune system:

  • Zinc
  • Vitamin C (high dose and liposomal are also good options)
  • Vitamin D3 (If possible for you, try to get outside in the morning when infrared sunlight is the strongest and soak up some sun)
  • Multivitamin (Our favorite is Cellular Vitality. This pack provides the highest quality daily multivitamins, antioxidants, and detoxification nutrients so that your body runs like a well oiled machine plus it includes all of the vitamins above and more)

Shamelessly Self-Care

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding this scary reality – and changes in your daily routine doesn’t make the situation any less stressful. Keeping stress at bay is crucial for a strong immune system. So what does this mean?

Take a break from the news! Yes, staying in touch with what’s going on is important but a media overload is unnecessary. Instead, do things you’ve been wanting to do with your free time. Download that meditation app, draw, dance, sing, stretch, read! You’ve been wanting to cook more? Now’s the time! Finally, get that VitaClay and make a nourishing stew. Make your own bone broth from scratch.

Light a candle. Take a bath. Relax and destress with an aroma wrap and tension relief wrap. Get a good book. Dry brush once a day. Not only will these options help reduce stress but they will also give your immune system a serious boost.

Disconnect but stay connected

Lastly, take social distancing seriously but don’t isolate yourself. Have a zoom meeting with your friends and family, facetime your sister, write romantic emails or letters. Use Netflix’s new party option! (We’ve been bingeing on The Crown lately). Enjoy this time alone or with family but don’t forget to nurture the relationships with loved ones you can’t be with right now. It’s necessary to keep our heads up, hearts open, and hopes high.
