Can you believe summer is almost over and that back to school is just around the corner?! Getting your kids back into the school groove is almost as hard as getting yourself back into the school groove.

There’s going to be late nights, early mornings, homework, tests, after-school activities, playdates, and a lot of preparation. And with a new school year, comes a whole new set of feelings for your kiddos: tiredness, sleeplessness, unproductivity, and hyperactivity. And don’t even get me started on germs and colds. Today, we’re talking about the best essential oils to help get your kids back into the swing of things, easily.

Immune Boosters

The oils we’ll talk about below are killer at strengthening the immune system and preventing any sickness when going back to school. Check out our healthy starter kit here to have the best immune boosters for the school year.

Tea Tree

Tea Tree is known for its cleansing and purifying properties. Keep this bacteria buster on hand for when you want to boost your little one’s immune system before going back to the classroom. Its antifungal, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties make it perfect for fighting those common disease-causing bacteria and viruses found in busy places.

How to: Simply diffuse 4-5 drops of tea tree to strengthen immunity and to purify air. Bonus! Add 10 drops to ½ a cup of baking soda and add to the washing machine to clean nasty after-school sport uniforms!

Frankincense

The King of Oils, Frankincense, can help keep the immune system strong by stimulating the body’s natural abilities to fight against any bad virus or bacteria that comes its way. We love to use Frankincense as a to help during cold and flu season at our house. And if we’re going to be around lots of people, we always bring Frankincense along.

How to: Dilute 2-3 drops of Frankincense with ½ to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil and gently massage to the bottoms of the feet, back of the neck, and wrists. Diffuse 5-8 drops of Frankincense and inhale deeply.

doTERRA On Guard Protective Blend

We are obsessed with On Guard at our house. This powerful blend is a combination of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils. Its warm, spicy, and woody aroma is perfect for boosting immunity and protecting against environmental and seasonal threats. Use as a means of preventative medicine or whenever you or a family member feels a cold coming on.

How to: Simply diffuse 5-8 drops of this protective blend and inhale deeply to benefits. Avoid topical use of this blend on children because cinnamon can sometimes be sensitizing to little ones.

doTERRA Stronger Protective Blend

Unlike On Guard, Stronger Protective Blend can be applied topically on children. Stronger is a roller bottle blend designed specifically for the Kids Collection at doTERRA. Its gentle ingredients like Cedarwood, Frankincense, and Rose are pre-diluted with fractionated coconut oil to help promote feelings of wellness and vitality.

My boys love its bright and lemony aroma. I love it because this essential oil blend for back to school provides protection when environmental threats are high. It can also be extremely soothing to occasional skin irritations and support them during a long day of play and activities.

How to: Roll onto hand, knees, and bottoms of feet before and after a long day of play. Roll onto wrists to sooth heightened emotions of distress.

On Guard Hand Sanitizing Mist

If having hand sanitizer at all times wasn’t a must already, it definitely is now! On Guard Hand Sani not only smells better than conventional hand sanitizers but it’s also just as effective with other added protective bonuses!

This mist will eliminate bacteria and other unwanted germs without drying the skin. Its convenient little bottle is perfect to send with your kids to school so that they can use it after touching gym equipment, door handles, railings, and other high traffic areas.

Cold & Flu Bomb Essential Oil  Recipe

Homework Helpers

With summer just coming to an end, it’s hard for kids to go from constant play mode to work mode. These oils will help foster focus, productivity, and memory so that getting back into the groove is a piece of cake.

Vetiver

Vetiver is a member of the grass family hence why it’s known for being an awesome grounding oil. It’s calming aroma is perfect for fueling focus when your kids need to finish homework or study. If your kids struggle with mind chatter and concentration, Vetiver can help.

How to: Diffuse 3-5 drops in the room when working on school work. Mix 1-2 drops with ½ to 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil and apply to the wrists.

Lavender

Lavender is known for its calming and soothing properties making it a perfect ally for winding down when it’s time for school work. If you’re having a hard time getting your kids onboard with other oils’ aromas, then try Lavender. I haven’t heard of one person that didn’t fall in love with the lovely aroma! It will work to calm an anxious and racing mind while promoting a peaceful and productive work environment.

How to: Diffuse 4-5 drops when winding down for the night to promote a relaxing and focus-oriented environment.

If your child has ADD/ADHD, try combining both lavender and vetiver in a diffuser to promote focus.

Rosemary

Got older kids in the house? Rosemary is a perfect herbal oil that can stimulate brain focus,  laser focus, and memory retention for that big project or test coming up.

How to: Diffuse 4-5 drops of Rosemary in the classroom or workplace to foster concentration, productivity, and memory.

Thinker

Thinker is an awesome focus blend from doTERRA’s Kid’s Collection. Its benefits include preventing mental distraction, boosting alertness and focus, and reducing feelings of mental stress. Marjoram is ideal for sleep because it works to calm busy minds and quiet worried thoughts. Some say Marjoram is even more powerful than Roman Chamomile and Lavender! You’ll have to see for yourself.

How to: Do relaxing stretches with your little ones before bed and inhale straight from the bottle. Mix 2-3 drops with ½ cup of epsom salt and add to their bedtime bath. Add 1-2 drops to your child’s pillow before bed.

doTERRA Calmer

From doTERRA’s Kid’s Collection, Calmer is a Restful Blend roll-on that helps reduce feelings of anxiousness and stress while creating a restful and peaceful environment for sleep.  To foster a quality night’s sleep for your child, try incorporating Calmer into your nighttime routine.
