Let’s talk about the best essential oils and blends to purify the air. Germs, bacteria, environmental toxins, and nasty odors are just floating around your home, having a field day. Having a clean house starts with clean air. I mean, how many times have you lit a candle, plugged in an air-freshener, or sprayed your home down with glade just to feel like you’ve freshened up?!

I don’t blame you. Nothing is more of a turnoff than a gross smelling home lurking with germs and bacteria. But here’s the thing, those conventional cleaners and deodorizers are full of toxic chemicals like synthetic fragrances, endocrine disruptors, known-carcinogens, and allergens. That’s the last thing you want to be dowsing your home in before a guest comes over. Let alone what your family is breathing in on a day to day basis.

That’s why I am obsessed with essential oils. These little powerful plant oils can not only replace the aroma you want to be filling your home with, but they can also eliminate airborne viruses, bacteria, germs, and odor effortlessly. All you have to do is find the oils your nose vibes with and get combining and diffusing.

In this article, you’ll learn about the top 5 oils best for purifying the air and 5 essential oil diffuser blends that will leave your home clean and fresh. Let’s get into it.

Best Essential Oils to Purify the Air

Lemon

This citrus oil has an uplifting and energizing aroma that is perfect for when you need a little more balance in your life. But that’s just a bonus.

Lemon’s antiseptic, antifungal, antiviral, and astringent properties make it a killer essential oil for purification. That means that in addition to purifying the mind, it can also purify the air.

Diffusing 4-5 drops of lemon in the morning is my go-to for a fresh start to the day. It puts me in a good mood while giving me the satisfaction of a morning “cleaning” sesh

Purifying citrus oils like lemon blend well with energizing minty oils like peppermint and wintergreen. That combo is unbeatable.

Tea Tree

Tea tree is a favorite when it comes to purification due to its antifungal, antibacterial, antiparasitic, antiseptic, and antiviral properties. If you’re looking to cleanse the air and purify your space, tea tree is a must to have on hand.

Because tea tree’s scent doesn’t appeal to everyone (I don’t hate it, but I also don’t love it), try blending it with a lovely floral aroma like lavender and cypress. It also smells incredible with all citrus oils, rosemary, thyme, and eucalyptus.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is the perfect air-purifying oil because it has been used for centuries to fight viral and infectious diseases. Testing has yet to find a virus, bacteria, or fungus that can survive up against it (1).

It’s probably because it’s chock-full of antibacterial, anti-infectious, antifungal, antiviral, antiseptic, and other purifying agents. So if it can fight toxins in the body, it can fight them in the air. Keep this one on hand for a warming and spicy purifying agent.

Cinnamon blends well with all citrus oil (hey lemon^!), cypress, frankincense, lavender, rosemary, juniper berry, geranium, and other spice oils.

Siberian Fir

Siberian Fir is known for fighting airborne germs and bacteria, making its case for our favorite essential oils to purify the air. It’s fresh, woody, earthy, and sweet scent create a cleansing environment and warm environment. Combine Siberian fir with frankincense and lavender to purify the air while stimulating a calm yet energizing focus.
