I love a good health & wellness strategy, but I’m not interested in adding 12 more things to my life just to squeeze out a theoretical 2% improvement. So when I discovered the world of sleepmaxxing, I wanted to know: which sleep routine strategies actually help, and which ones are just stealing our time, money, and focus?

In this episode, I’m putting sleepmaxxing on trial by breaking down some of the most popular wellness trends from magnesium and the sleepy girl mocktail to morning sunlight, weighted blankets, mouth taping, white noise, and sleep trackers. I’ll share my thoughts on where they may actually be useful, where the evidence is limited, and where we may be overcomplicating sleep.

“There comes a point where optimization is no longer worth the effort.”

As someone who considers sufficient rest to be a non-negotiable for peak performance, I’m completely on board with taking sleep seriously. But there’s a difference between protecting your sleep and turning your bedtime routine into another project on energy optimization.

For me, this episode is really about sustainable wellness. High performers are already managing enough decisions, responsibilities, and competing demands. We don’t need a nighttime routine that creates another layer of pressure.

In this episode, we’ll cover:

  • Why getting enough sleep matters more than adding another popular wellness trend
  • Which foundational sleep routine strategies have the biggest payoff
  • Why high capacity people should prioritize capacity over complexity, especially for sleep
  • How to recognize when energy optimization has become another source of stress

Optimization only works when it supports your actual life. Sleep is part of wellness for high performers, but sustainable performance doesn’t require us to optimize every variable.

If a strategy meaningfully improves your sleep, reduces friction, or helps you recover, great! However, the most strategic thing we can do is sometimes to give ourselves enough time to sleep, create an environment that supports recovery, wind down intentionally, and then simply go to bed.

Is your wellness routine giving you more capacity back or has it become yet another thing you feel pressure to do perfectly?
